TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION POST 64

Hi,

Well after roundly condemning those who took part in destroying modern art's creditability in the United States, it's necessary to look at major influences for more answers AS to what is happening to our community of man, culture and the economy.

TECHNOLOGY!!!!!!!!

Since TECHNOLOGY is the present and future of the world, economically, it stands to reason that changes in culture will happen here. The start up of all types of new businesses has been in large part happening on the Web. The small shops on the corners of America and other lands are now often on the Web. More mega-shops like Amazon will grow from these and offer access to all sorts of temptations even to the home bound.

Yep, the Internet is one of the culprits in the loss that's occurred in the arts as well as the gains. We can look at music. Remember the advent of the SYNTHESIZER? We can look at films. Remember the advent of TAPE, now CDs? Dance--remember the advent of the BEAT? Art had the SILK SCREEN which quickly took hold in printing. Newspapers divorced themselves from typesetting to embrace offset printing based on photo negatives; Photography took gigantic leaps from huge studio cameras to today's digital which makes, as AW would have said, "everyone's a photographer". All these ADVANCES cost us even as they brought the new and desired and provided new economies. The Internet actually moved the arts to a broader sphere which is not necessarily bad.

By the by, the Industrial Revolution was in the 18th and 19th century and brought us into the world of manufacturing and mass marketing. It was thought to be preceded by the Agricultural Revolution but in the 1960's historians changed their thinking. Major changes in 1750 were seen as part of a much longer, larger and slower process of change that lasted well into the early 19th Century. We have probably been into the Technological Revolution since electrification or before. These changes tend to morph into each other.

So changes during "revolutions" overlap dramatically and of course, cause surviving citizenry all sorts of confusions. Our biggest event in recent centuries (outside of the various chemical advances) has been the computer. The current computer tablets and phones are an outgrowth. We can thank it for the advancement to the network and the resulting WEB which now holds our CULTURE !!!!!! IT'S AT YOUR FINGERTIPS and that should be a good thing--RIGHT?????

Well, maybe, maybe not. When folks assume that history or culture is easily acquired or right at their fingertips when they desire it, they tend to get uninterested until it's needed. How often have you recently gone on the web to read history???????How often have you visited the Google museums across the world easily accessed on Google.com. The .COMS are wonderfully handy for research and enlightenment (as well as deceit) and enjoyment but a majority of folks often need more stimulus to activate their latent curiosity.

The Net also knowingly or unknowingly sponsors much that is untrue and detrimental. But not using technology is not the answer to these problems. IT IS HERE. IT IS NOW! What you DON'T SUPPORT will disappear! WHAT YOU DO SUPPORT will gain PRIORITY!!!!!!!

The gobbling quality of technology is interesting. TV is the technological product that wrote newspapers' obituaries and played a huge share in riveting our attention to current affairs. It is now becoming web oriented and has more online than offline. There are now more channels and less good TV. One wonders at its future as more and more devices divert attention from it. It does have the advantage of CELEBRITY TO SHOW PEOPLE THE WAY to read, dress, eat, buy houses, and buy the right appliances. It's a large sales tool and economically that is helping to continue its survival but when that weakens--POOF. Now you see it-now you don't.

TV recently pointed out the pocket phone's capabilities on the Web as being an IMMENSE TOOLS IN REVOLUTIONS of the street kind in Arab countries. THERE--BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD--GO WE!!!!!!!!!! The Web and its vast usage and huge population has become a vital and downright scary factor in daily life.

The large areas of research on the Web are convenient. No more trips to the library for those who own computers!!!!!!!!! And lots of trips to the library for those without computers. Easily ready information often has the effect of dulling the senses and creating a careless attitude toward evident realities when much more interesting fantasies exist for the taking. There are unfortunately hundreds of scams, lawless activity, and outrageous behavior fostered by the Internet unheeded and unchecked. LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!

The work place has received a tremendous boost from web based technology, allowing a great many positions to be filled by professionals and workers, home based. This trend is only in its infancy but the workers now involved are offered a freedom of place hitherto unknown for office or professions. It is a trend I believe will expand and invade many job categories so that education in technology becomes a vital asset to the public as a whole. Economically, the web will be a main job procurer and offer opportunities now found in communities.

The web has made the whole world "our oyster". Food supplies, medicine, and all forms of merchandise can be researched as well as bought and sold through the web which is now THE largest sales tool in the world.

DO YOU HAVE THE FEELING THAT THE NET HAS INVADED EVERY INCH OF OUR LIVES.
YOU'RE RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

Okay just this side of boring you, marvels always hold a dark side. The perverts and the revolutionary zealots are minor problems compared to the kind of CONTROL this very intrusive and influential technology can be used to command.

ARMIES have become useful for DISRUPTION THESE DAYS (as we've seen in a number of conflicts) RHETORIC in the Media and on the WEB has become more effective. Elections and coups are often won and lost on the basis of SAVVY WEB USAGE!!!!!!!!!! Many of our institutions and services are INTERNET CONTROLLED financially--VERY DANGEROUS!!!!! CLEAR REALITY SHOWS that the forces of TYRANNY can take aim at this window of opportunity to capture and subvert technology for their purposes.

What are the options???? VIGILANCE!!!!!! Well, Citizens haven't proven too swift with protecting our American Republic, but perhaps lessons have been learned. Use the rules set out for the protection of our country. The same rules can work well in maintaining freedom on the Internet and curbing the excesses.

As always, nothing replaces RESPONSIBILITY in human endeavor. There has to be the willingness to speak out and ATTEMPT TO LEAD THE WAY and WEB blogs and comment sites should be used MORE effectively. MAN USES AND CONTROLS TOOLS-NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers, Connie
