Economically the November 2, 2010 election told the President and reassured the citizenship that pure Fabian Socialism was not the right choice for America's economic government. This was an important election because the country had reached a crossroads. Although allowing a little socialism to creep into the system, a change from the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Representative government to a fully Socialist government was voted against.
This is not the end of our need to protect our rights in America. Socialism has been creeping into the system for over seventy years and socialists made the assumption from that constant invasion that Americans had lost our thirst for freedom and their rights. THEY WILL TRY AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!!!! The need in the future to continue vigilance is imperative. That vigilance was neglected for a lot of years and it almost cost Americans their country. Let's hope that MISTAKE won't be made again. FREEDOM DOESN'T COME FREE. It requires VOLUNTEERISM and it hasn't been getting it.
If regular volunteers to some good cause consider volunteering for some POLITICAL issues, there would be constant watches on the politicians. There are committees, political parties and constitutional causes. New committees could be formed with the knowledge now available. Citizens must work as hard at assuring liberty as any GOOD CAUSE out there. Form groups to understand and protect the Constitution and Bill of Rights, study recent LEGISLATIVE BILLS before they pass (THE SOCIALIST WILL) so that continuing attempts to water down THE REPUBLIC or CHANGE it to something not desired, will meet with immediate opposition.
THIS IS A RESPONSIBILITY that the Socialist would prefer not to be taken by citizens so it has stopped being taught in schools. NOTICE that CIVICS IS NO LONGER TAUGHT!!!!!!!That said, on to the economic problem.
The Bill of Rights says (by the way you can look it up on the web) in Amendment II says: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
THIS IS A FAVORITE FOR THE SOCIALISTS TO ATTACK. It's obvious why. It plays on our emotions. States rights are often tested to see if the Feds can violate them such as the debacle between Obama and the Colorado Governor. Freedom of religion is often mocked and so on. But the concept of citizens having arms has frightened away most enemies. We are capable of total revolution in this country while armed so it's no wonder the enemies of our system of government would like to see them gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To bear arms is AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT CONCEPT that allows a free country to have a free economy and deter PIRATES, and other predators, who by the way always lie in wait for OPPORTUNITY, WEAKNESS, AND STUPIDITY. It is sad to think Americans must always look over a shoulder for the BANDITS whether they are SOCIALISTS or FREE TRADERS but REALISTICALLY that is the way of the world .
BEARING ARMS means to keep armed AGAINST the INVADERS. It does not mean to go out and start shooting . YES, there will be a few who misuse guns but THE MAJORITY of the over 300 MILLION people have not shot other people recently, have they?
That's America's population and the use of guns illegally or irresponsibly is minuscule compared to that number of people. And those villains who chose to MISUSE the freedom to bear to bear arms would locate them elsewhere if not available here, or use something equally as dangerous. (LIKE A ROCK--CAVE MEN MADE GOOD USE OF ROCKS). Reasonably and factually, shooting incidents involve very little of the population so there's little need to go over the top and play into the hands of the enemies of FREEDOM.
Keep your new representatives in the house aware OF POSSIBLE LEGISLATIVE BOONDOGGLES against our Bill of Rights, that might be passed over by a new and possibly unaware Congress. The SOCIALISTS have said that no CATASTROPHE should go unnoticed (like the OBAMA SHELLACKING) since it can be used to further their cause. So they won't take this election without increasing the amount of legislation and hiding the purposes if necessary.
Stay alert to ALL your freedoms even if they don't DIRECTLY affect you. You may not own a gun, you may not want to own one. But if you allow that freedom to be removed, what may it cost you ECONOMICALLY in the rights that do affect you? If the enemies of our form of government see one right go, how long before they attack the remainder?
What about STATE'S RIGHTS; FREEDOM OF SPEECH; THE RIGHT TO PREVENT UNREASONABLE SEARCH AND SEISURE; DUE PROCESS OF LAW; THE RIGHT FOR A JURY TRIAL AND DEFENSE COUNCIL; THE RULES OF COMMON LAW FOR THE PEOPLE; THE RIGHT FOR REASONABLE BAIL; AND ALL RIGHTS NOT IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS GO TO THE PEOPLE.
These precepts are talem for granted but there are more countries without them than those who have some of them. Freedom was economically dear (costly) to our ancestors. Whatever small contributions of time and effort should not be seen as a burden. It is the land of the FREE AND THE BRAVE, NO MATTER HOW OUR ENEMIES MOCK THAT!!!!!!!!! Stop listening to them and start living the American Dream and make the responsibility for freedom as popular as the Communists have made Fabian Socialism. CHOOSE A POSSE-GET THOSE BOMB-SLINGERS!

Terrorism is the new worry of the 21st Century. Since we spent most of the twentieth century worrying about atomic bombs, we've replaced it with ARAB TERRORISM. If you remember the Irish practiced this on the English and the Basques on Spain in their prolonged fights for independence so it's not a new trick. A study of the Basque situation showed terrorism reduced their own region's economic income per capitva (personal) level by 10% so the perpetrators suffered economically as well.
It is too bad that the Press is so YELLOW JOURNALISTICALLY oriented today because that encourages the very acts the press vilifies. It publicizes them and creates an attitude of the terrorism having been successful. There is no question that when you are attacked even in a minor way, someone is sending a message that THEY DON'T LIKE YOU OR YOUR ATTITUDES!!!!!!!!!!! Gosh, what a revelation. Usually, one can walk away or turn away or ignore the insults but unfortunately when a bomb is used, it becomes dramatic.
What is all this drama created by the terrorists costing us economically and personally. Well, personally we've certainly experienced the lack of freedom in every day life. Travel has become more difficult, and gathering places like malls more suspect, and there is a general feeling of unease around strangers that has made America lose that small town camaraderie.
The cost politically has been the election of OVER MILITANT AND NOW OVER TYRANNICAL leaders and a constant chatter of suppression of whatever SEEMS TO NEED TO BE CONTROLLED. The economic costs in property, defense, and homeland spending, as well as the impact on financial markets is not really calculable. There is also the economic effect on supply chains increasing transportation costs including the more personal ones like our home delivery services.
The direct cost of the September ll attack in New York City is really the only factual example and that is cited to be more than $20 billion dollars for the immediate loss in property. They also estimate the attack cost the private sector $14 billion, the Federal government, $7 billion, clean-up cost was about $11 billion. All in all, it brings an estimated total of $95 billion. THIS COUNTRY NOW SPENDS ABOUT $500 BILLION ANNUALLY on combating or preventing terrorism in defense and homeland security. $500 billion is as much as if we'd had (God forbid) five or six 9/11 PER YEAR.
What makes terrorism so traumatic is the impersonal and surprise actions of the perpetrators that creates a kind of mass hysteria. The sudden loss of innocent lives by unseen enemies creates an emotional and psychological problem for people and creates an unsatisfied anger. However, I would like to insert a small measure of REALISM here.
The only difference between any major disaster like floods, hurricanes, fire, and travel crashes that kill large amounts of innocent people is that they LACK A PERPETRATOR. We spend a lot attempting to avoid disaster or repairing the damage but we pick up our marbles and play again! They happen, we mourn them, but we accept that a certain number of these disasters may affect our lives daily.
It is the addition of an ENEMY that causes the problem and makes us think we have to produce some kind of ANTI-ENEMY DEVICE that in the long run makes us far more uncomfortable and unhappy than the ORIGINAL CAUSE. Sure we have to let them know we will punish the acts but we ARE NOT REQUIRED TO LIVE FEARFULLY!!!!!!!!!!! That is giving the enemy the idea we are COWARDS. $500 billion should be enough to find the perpetrators and deal justice!!!!!!!!!!
David K. Levine in an article on the internet, "The True Costs of Terrorism and National Security" says: "Perhaps the costs are justified by the fears and real risks. Certainly, we must continue vigilance...............But what is needed is a sense of balance--a reasoned approach......"
And this is my point. If we accept the very real dangers every day of driving a car to and from our business and errands and the imminent danger that we face WITHOUT CALLING THE POLICE to escort us on our dangerous path; can't we bring that kind of sensibility and courage to the risks that terroism entails?
In London in World War II they lived their daily lives under the shadow of buzz bombs that struck without warning and citizens managed to face each day with cheerful, realistic and courageous caution. Yes, at least they could strike back at their enemy but that didn't change the daily hazard and they wouldn't allow that enemy the victory of seeing fear. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE HAZARDS TO MAN'S FRAGILITY whether by nature or his own destructive toys and we can minimize the cost emotionally, psychologically, and economically by taking a REALISTIC LOOK AT OUR REACTIONS. Are we in effect playing into the terrorists' hands by adding our OVER-DRAMATIC attitudes to their plunder????????????
Think about it. YOU ARE NOW SPENDING OVER $500 BILLION TO FIGHT SHADOWS ON THE TV SCREEN and losing the battle. Calm your fears, fight your hysteria, show the perpetrators your courage, and in effect SPIT IN THEIR EYE. And you know what??????????THAT COSTS NOTHING AND YOU CAN SPEND the $500 BILLION finding the guilty, or better yet, on our poor and needy.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

We've examined Fabian Socialism as an economic factor in our lives and the greatest imposition on our American system in the years since the framing of the Consitution in 1787. Let's examine the American system because we all need a reminder now and then to what we actually aspire as a nation.
The 55 framers of the Constitution set up a system of LIMITED GOVERNMENT to be controlled by WE THE PEOPLE. They did not recognize government as all knowing, all powerful, and all controlling. CONGRESS was not designed to make laws that don't follow the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. This was very different from England and Europe with their massively controlled governments by Royalty or dictators and centrally controlled.
The framers also set up a very distinct separation of powers so that the government they set up could not become tyrannical.They set up the LEGISLATIVE branch that is, CONGRESS, to MAKE LAW for us; the EXECUTIVE branch that is, the PRESIDENT, to ENFORCE LAW; and the JUDICIAL branch, that is, the SUPREME COURT to JUDGE and INTERPRET LAW.
This system came about because the Framers felt Britain's Parliamentary Government concentrated too much power in one branch, and produced a corrupt and tyrannical system. WE FORGET WHY, SOMETIMES.
This system was designed with checks and balances so that one branch can put a STOP to the actions of another branch through Congressional impeachment, judicial challenges to Congress or the laws, and veto by the President. CLEVER THESE AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!
And last but not least is the principle of Federalism. While some key powers are held by a central government, others are held by state governments. STATE RULE existed even before the Consitution was enacted so that the originals THIRTEEN states could manage their affairs.
REMEMBER that the American Revolution revolted against a EUROPEAN CENTRALIZED GOVERNMENT that attempted to RULE AMERICA. The framers were very opposed to creating too powerful a central government in America. State Government presented another type of check and balance.
Our land was born on July 4, 1776 and the U.S. Constitution became law in June 1788 to strengthen the fledgling concepts and was a BRILLIANT STROKE in its complete concepts.
The first stock exchange was founded in Philadelph in 1790. Our economic system was formed not long after our Consitution and was a free system of commerce, governed only by the involved merchants.The Government was not involved in its power or workings except as the leaders of Government became involved as merchants and brought their political clout to the market place.
Into this mix came the concept of the STOCK MARKET. Twenty-four leading merchants in 1792, met secretly to discuss how to create order in the securities business and ultimately defeat their competitors who were the auctioneers. YES, THEY WERE INVOLVED IN WHAT WE CALL BUSINESS. They signed an agreement called the BUTTONWOOD AGREEMENT based on their traditional meeting place under a Buttonwood tree (of such simple, homely things are great traditions made) which set trading fees, trade among selves, and agreement not to participate in auctions of securities.
When New York was the United States' national capitol a Federal Hall was built on Wall Street where George Washington took his oath. Wall Street became a famous name and since the trading was done on the street under that Buttonwood Tree-ergo, we have WALL ST.
Now, WE THE PEOPLE, have a stake in this as well!!! What WE buy, where WE spend it, and the demands that WE make, affect WALL STREET. We can be the ULTIMATE power and Control by demanding to be able to CHOOSE TO purchase Amercan goods. THE CHOICE is the key. Foreign goods are fine but when our markets can no longer COMPETE AND PROVIDE because of cost, it's not good. We have not been exerting that economic control!!!!!! Practice your rights.
What's the old saying: If it sounds too good to be true, it is!!! That was the case in purchasing homes. And could be the case again if we are not vigilant!
Okay, the gist of all that information is WE WERE CONCEIVED A FREE NATION ABOVE ALL ELSE.
We have strayed a long way from that path, but prior to recent bills, it has been in a workable way. Now we are on the brink of accepting a complete change of concepts, based on Fabian Socialism, which like the days in the 1700's is clamoring to centrally control this rich, new country. IS THAT WHAT WE REALLY WANT?????????
If it is, then decide not to vote this November election and it will continue to happen. IF IT IS NOT what you want!!!!!!!! THEN VOTE to bring the Congress back into balance.

FABIAN SOCIALISM. A CREEPING DISEASE!

Thus far, I have covered only a portion of the Economics that affect our country so we need to look at the issue of Fabian Socialism, a British variety that America has been copying. Our Social Security, health care, welfare acts and various other programs have been started as part of Fabian Socialism with little or no thought about the outcomes.
There is no argument that the Pilgrims came to America as a result of their dislike of British politics, its excesses in taxation, suppression of religious expression, and consequent loss of freedom. Britain thought to change those abuses by eventually instituting Fabian Socialism as an alternative. But it's citizens are STILL OVER TAXED AND ENSLAVED THE PUBLIC!!!!!!!
THE POINT HERE is the British are fabulous in literature, photography, and men's fashions and SUCK in most of their FINE ART AND POLITICS. WE STARTED A NEW KIND OF GOVERNMENT to escape those British and European influences and abuses. Their poor political choices and endeavors have followed us to America.
Fabian Socialism is a creeping Socialism. It's not revolutionary!!!!!Most Americans don't feel the fear of being taken over and losing freedom because it does creep up on the voters.
Fabian Socialism is a rash that if not treated early spreads. It will cover the entire body of Americanism until we are Fabian Socialists. It must be at least slowed in this November election and in a continuing and slow movement, it must be eradicated from our Government using the techniques and methods Fabian Socialism teaches. "Win like Fabius, by delay". When America is threatened by "We will destroy you from within"; the response must choosing wisely for our American form of government and delay a takeover by socialism.
A slogan by these socialists is: "Win like Fabius, by delay." Roman general Quintus Fabius Maximus (Fabian to you) defeated Hannibal this way before 203 B.C. NOT A NEW CONCEPT is it!!!!!!!!!! George Washington also used it in the American Revolution so you can say we are BEING HOIST ON OUR OWN PETARD. (a workable old expression meaning destroyed by one's own bomb). The North Vietnamese used it against us in the Vietnam War (and as you remember we lost BIG TIME). it is NOT SOMETHING TO BE IGNORED!!!!!!!!!!
And where does Fabian Socialism reside? In Economics, of course! In 1884 Fabian Socialism was launched then made the foundation of the British Labour Party in the United Kingdom in 1904. It was then and is now a "war of attrition" to change (REFORM) the politics and economics of any government into a socialist state and instead of revolution by harassment and attrition.
THE EMBLEM OF THE BRITISH FABIAN SOCIALIST SOCIETY, by the way, is a WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING!!!!!!!!!! The latest advocates in Britain are the Young Fabians brought into the light by Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister.

Thus far, I have covered only a portion of the Economics that affect our country so we need to look at the issue of Fabian Socialism, a British variety that America has been copying. Our Social Security, health care, welfare acts and various other programs have been started as part of Fabian Socialism with little or no thought about the outcomes.
There is no argument that the Pilgrims came to America as a result of their dislike of British politics, its excesses in taxation, suppression of religious expression, and consequent loss of freedom. Britain thought to change those abuses by eventually instituting Fabian Socialism as an alternative. But it's citizens are STILL OVER TAXED AND ENSLAVED THE PUBLIC!!!!!!!
THE POINT HERE is the British are fabulous in literature, photography, and men's fashions and SUCK in most of their FINE ART AND POLITICS. WE STARTED A NEW KIND OF GOVERNMENT to escape those British and European influences and abuses. Their poor political choices and endeavors have followed us to America.

TRUTH??????????POLLS DON'T GO THERE!!!!!!!!!!

Economics covers many subjects as we learned in earlier blogs and statistics is high on the list. Statistics are a current favorite because you can provide SUPPOSITION for anything and make it look like PROOF.
POLLS fall into the statistics category and POLITICAL POLLS are the most suppositional of all but presented as PROOF of what will happen in an upcoming election. The polls following an election have more of a semblance of reality.
This would not be a problem if EVERYONE realized that we're talking about EDUCATED GUESSES. However, the influence that polls engender is based on our very human feelings of INDECISION because we don't have all the FACTS. Not having ALL THE FACTS, we feel that OTHERS PROBABLY KNOW MORE and so we should realign OUR thinking to agree with THEIR thinking and VOTE THE POPULAR TREND which is CREATED BY THE POLLSTERS.
Of course, the MEDIA AND POLLSTERS know this so that the RESULT OF THE POLLS you are given (AND THEY VARY WIDELY plus they no longer tell whose poll it is) are the ones that most suit the POLITICAL TEMPERAMENT OF A GIVEN SOURCE (the TV station, the newspaper, the magazine, the book, whatever).
You can go on the Internet and look up the polls and find the poll you like. Do you want one NOT FAVORING Congress or the President? IT'S THERE!!!!!!!!!!! Do you want one FAVORING the Congress or the President? IT'S THERE!!!!!!!!!! All the numbers, statistics and even in the case of some large pollsters the exact processes used. Isn't modern ECONOMICS wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

Just as in all statistics the authors of polls give you evidence of how FAIR AND IMPARTIAL their poll is and I am sure many of the pollsters MEAN WELL (remember that's not my highest compliment) but FACTS ARE FACTS and POLLS are STATISTICS.
In recent years The Associated Press and GFK Roper Public Affairs & Corporate Communications forged a partnership to become a leader in PUBLIC OPINION and marketing research. Supposedly the Associated Press "delivers fast unbiased news...and is the largest, most trusted source of independent news and information". A NOBLE and just worthy calling but they expend 30 or 40 pages of information and questions on their polls on the internet to PROVE how fair and unbiased their polls are set up. You can find every bit of the this information gathered on a site called "How the Poll was Conducted". Exemplary conduct!!!!!!!!!! RIGHT??????????????
You know what?????????? FACTS do not often need 30 to 40 pages of information and JUSTIFICATION so there must be a problem of belief in the documents that are in this case called the polls!!!!!!!
What to believe????????How to decide??????????TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!!!!!!!!!!! NINE OUT OF TEN TIMES your instincts are CORRECT. That's BETTER than most statistics or polls!!!!!!
What are some of the PITFALLS of polls that most Pollsters forget to include: the BIAS of the person choosing the participants (even random phone numbers can be less than random); the VERICITY of the folks polled (Did you know that people will LIE when they don't trust the questioner?????); results are WEIGHTED (which means ADJUSTED OR SKEWED) to reflect the population's makeup (THIS COMES UNDER BIAS AS WELL); only a SMALL SELECTION (about 1000) of adults (18 or older) in the United States are usually polled (they claim their results never vary by more than +or-4.2% points in the UPS poll compared to population); and they do admit to potential errors like wording and order of questions (YOU THINK??????????)
This process also allows the current research teams that do the polls to ask a lot of NOSY QUESTIONS that aren't really pertinent to a particular issue that the interviewee feels obligated to answer of LIE about that will be used in other IFFY research statistics.

There are a lot of jobs, out there filled by earnest, well meaning people doing a job for statisticians, not really aware of where the information is intended to be used and do not intend to misinform the public. Unfortunately, they don't make the rules.
Personally, it's always good if the polls GO AGAINST your candidate because it means that the folks who approve of that candidate will stir their stumps and get out to vote at the REAL POLLS WHERE PEOPLE VOTE AND MAKE REAL FACTS AVAILABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some random facts that question the impartiality of the poll and prove that there is a distinct make up of the people involved: a PARTICULAR POLL shows that there were 48% above $50,000. and 47% below $50,000.;white participants were 76% and black, 10%; other nationalities, 12%; Christians, 88%, Not Christian, 12% DOES THIS NOT MAKE YOU IN AWE OF THE POLLSTERS???????????How difficult must it be to "RANDOMLY" SELECT THOSE PERFECT PERCENTAGES that fit the national statistical average??????????

It is impossible to form those perfect percentages which is why the Pollsters adjust the folks answering the polling to suit the proper ratio based on their previous statistical evidence in those areas. I wonder if out of the thousand people polled, they actually wind up with a hundred acceptable people???????????? IF THAT'S NOT A MIND BOGGLING RATIO OF A SCREWY FACSIMILE OF FACTS then you should go into the field of ELECTION POLL MAKING. It's a fit.

LAST BEST HOPE OF MANKIND
I'm departing from my usual voyage into Economics to discuss something that was brought to my attention in a recent email.
The gist of the email said that the greatest generation somehow failed to convey the real meaning of America to my generation and on down the line. The speaker, Dennis Prager, a college professor and TV broadcaster, says that they failed to pass on what it means to be an American.; that one can be a good and loyal American but not realize exactly what that means in terms of moral precepts.
We have to go back to the original commitments: IN GOD WE TRUST; LIBERTY; AND E PLURIBUS UNUM (out of MANY-ONE ). BECAUSE OF THOSE PRECEPTS AMERICA WAS CALLED 'THE LAST BEST HOPE FOR MANKIND". It was an experiment of governing and it succeeded!!!!!!!!!! As Dennis Prager put it 'A GREAT HUMAN EXPERIMENT" AND IT SUCCEEDED!!!!!!!!!!!!
E Puribus Unum (refers to becoming one nation) and in the phrase in the Declaration of Independence states that "all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights". It is a phrase forced out of schools because of the communist use of "the equal".

The gist of the email said that the greatest generation somehow failed to convey the real meaning of America to my generation and on down the line. The speaker, Dennis Prager, a college professor and TV broadcaster, says that they failed to pass on what it means to be an American.; that one can be a good and loyal American but not realize exactly what that means in terms of moral precepts.
We have to go back to the original commitments: IN GOD WE TRUST; LIBERTY; AND E PLURIBUS UNUM (out of MANY-ONE ). BECAUSE OF THOSE PRECEPTS AMERICA WAS CALLED 'THE LAST BEST HOPE FOR MANKIND". It was an experiment of governing and it succeeded!!!!!!!!!! As Dennis Prager put it 'A GREAT HUMAN EXPERIMENT" AND IT SUCCEEDED!!!!!!!!!!!!
E Puribus Unum (refers to becoming one nation) and in the phrase in the Declaration of Independence states that "all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights". It is a phrase forced out of schools because of the communist use of "the equal".

Someone asked recently when the housing crisis is likely to be over. Despite government public relations reports, the answer is not good. There is no magic wand that will cure the sickness that ails housing and the constant fiddling by politicians just constitutes a longer wait to find out what true house pricing constitutes.
Because that's the real key to all this. The MAGIC MARKERS used by mortgage companies, bankers and the government set prices at unrealistic rates. How to ascertain this? Well, let's step back in time just 50 years. That seem like a long time to you? It's not when you consider that prices rose far more slowly in the years preceding the 1960 time frame.
In 1960 the average then luxury home in a good Florida neighborhood (a 3-BR, 2 bath home of 2000 square feet) sold for $12,500. That's right: twelve thousand, five hundred dollars. That same home today EVEN AFTER THE RECENT REDUCTION in home prices in the same neighborhood (which is now an OLD nice neighborhood) sells for around $500,000. This price change is similar even for lesser homes.
Not being a mathematician or statistician, even so it is clear that an increase of $9750. a year during good and bad times for 50 years is rather strange but that's exactly what that home would have had to experience to reach $500,000.
SO, WHAT IS REAL VALUE????????? How much is that home really worth? It was obviously built in 1960 to sell at $12,500. Did the owners provide almost $10,000. of REAL HOME IMPROVEMENTS over the 50 years???????? It's doubtful. What caused the house to become more valuable than it was originally?
If you bought a $3,000. car in 1960 and used it sparingly for 50 years with no other owners, it's not going to be worth anything even in pristine condition WHEN YOU TRY TO SELL IT.
Seem strange that a house probably used by at least 10 or more owners in 50 years would BECOME MUCH MORE VALUABLE. Yes, land cost do rise as less land is less available but neighborhoods change so that some become less desirable and should drive house prices down. None seem likely to reach original cost. IS THERE A HOUSE at or near the same value as 50 years ago???????? It would be very difficult to find.
How does a house appreciate beyond real value? Regular repairs wrongly seen as Home IMPROVEMENT are added to the selling price.
CARS constantly need repair or fuel and guess what? CARS DEPRECIATE (lose value-a lot of it). You can't add those costs to the sale price of the car or a home.
Added to the home's selling price is the profit many owners AND SPECULATORS feel they deserve JUST BECAUSE they were smart enough to buy the home.
Then there are those real home improvement loans (additions to square footage) that Banks like to add to a mortgage so that the home will appreciate in value. Those improvements deserve to be figured that into the seller's price. However, many times the money is spent on repairs and not true home improvements.
Taxes have have a role in increasing home prices beyond real value. When tax appraisers saw houses selling for more than the original cost, they scratched their heads and said, 'we should be able to tap into this extra money' and THEY DID. Houses in the past were not treated like the stock market but were taxed on the basis of what they originally cost plus genuine home improvements producing a more realistic home value than in the past 20 years.
They decided to assess a home on the basis of surrounding home sales or just estimate values on a similar basis. NOT FAIR???????? RIGHT!!!!!!!!!! If you choose to live in your home for a long time and have never sold it, you are taxed on the basis of someone else's profit taking. That's how they build fancy courthouses. Those tax values soon became the accepted lowest value of homes in an area. Not necessarily the selling price but the taxable price. AGAIN WE HAVE A MAGIC MARKER.

The statisticians say that home values have decreased 30% (considering how far off real value they have become--that is a conservative amount); that some $6 trillion home equity value has gone back into that BLUE SKY (that's an imaginary land by the way--MORE MARKERS); HOUSEHOLD wealth has decreased by about $170 billion, according to Goldman Sachs and a million or so homes are not being built annually which has removed 5 million jobs and lowered consumption, according to Mortimer Zuckerman in the Wall Street Journal. It's going to be a matter of letting housing seek its own equilibrium, according to Zuckerman.

KEEP THE AMERICAN DREAM OR A NIGHTMARE?

It is election time for Congress in a few short weeks so talk of tax cuts looms. Tax cuts that seem sympathetic to the current problems.
ECONOMICALLY SPEAKING because of the NON-EXISTENT???????????INFLATION, a million even three million is now a possible figure for middle class folks to leave behind when all their estate is counted (unless, of course, house prices keep falling at the speed of constellations ). Homes in the 70's in a nice neighborhood (not fancy) cost around $30,000. REMEMBER PRICES ARE NOW AT LEAST 10x prices in the 70's.
Therefore: 10 x 100,000 ($100,000 was considered good high middle class inheritance income in the 70's) and now easily translates into a MILLION.
The inheritance bill is aimed at the middle class! When all is said and done, leaving children at least some part of earned income is a way to make the AMERICAN DREAM real. It is the way immigrants and the previously poor have made it possible for their children to live in nice neighbnorhoods with the expectation those children in turn will do the same.
GUESS WHAT???????????? If the reduction made in inheritance tax is not continued after December then FORGET making it possible for any future generations to enjoy the AMERICAN DREAM. More likely the AMERICAN NIGHTMARE. At present it focuses on estates of $3m but we know how that goes. It won't be long before inheritance will be a thing of the past. By the time the lawyers, the inheritance taxes (which will likely grow), local taxes and other costs ARE LEVIED, they'll be lucky not to have to pay the Government for the privilege of continuing to live in the home left them to them.

Television with its constant bias changed that. Instead of newspapers and magazines taking the opportunity to take the opposite stance, they caved and now offer THEIR OWN BIAS.

NGOs-LOOSE AS A GOOSE
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago when we took a look at Hungarian George Soros and his wealthy input into American and International politics, we ran into some Soros' influenced NGOs (NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS)that are listed on the Web.
Speaking of "George", a small newspaper item announced that he'd given $100 million over a 10 year period to Human Rights Watch, an international human rights group. The money comes from Soros' Open Society Foundations. His Open Society Institute sponsors "DEATH IN AMERICA", and he helped fund the Oregon Death with Dignity Act which he hopes will transform the culture and experience of dying since he sponsors euthanasia. Mr. Soros, although Hungarian, considers himself RESPONSIBLE for all phases of an American's life. He obviously considers us irrational, irresponsible AND TOO UNSTABLE to account for our own actions or our influence on the world. Too bad! I wonder if he judges us on the Disneyland phenomenon?
Both of the organizations in which Soros is involved are NGOs that you can find explained on the Web. And if you get interested there are over 40,000 NGOs internationally and they can number in the millions in individual countries like India.
A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a legally constituted organization (according to the legalities of the founding countries' citizens) created by natural or certain legal persons that operates independently of any government and without government status. Funding may be by private individuals and partially by government but must exclude government officials from membership. Supposedly the NGO pursues some wider social aim and is not overtly political. It really has NO LEGAL DEFINITION and is LOOSE AS A GOOSE.
Unfortunately, this loose definition has led to recognition in Agenda 21 of the United Nations (never seen as political??????????) for a consulting relationship which LOOSELY SPEAKING MEANS United Nations one World CONTROL. There's the GOOSE!!!!!!!!!! NGOs have been called "THE GROWING POWER OF THE UNSELECTED FEW". Unfortunately, many NGOs appear to have moved from their own issues to a largely liberal POLITICAL agenda aimed at destroying United States sovereignty and free market capitalism.
Since NGOs create their own rules and regulations, they often use their organization to force political issues by the knowledgeable use of the MEDIA MACHINE. That title for the recent path of the media is a great one and I will pursue that in another post!!!!!!!!

A code of ethics was established in 2003 by THE WORLD ASSOCIATION OF NON-GOVERNMENTAL NGOs. It is LOOSELY FOLLOWED but once a large association is formed, the NGO becomes its OWN KIND OF GOVERNMENT that REQUIRES PAID staffs.
As an employer just one large NGO can employ over 5000 staff and have budgets in the hundreds of millions+ dollars. That Money must come from dues, donations, and if necessary government funding. This has become the case with the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) whose annual budget in the late l990s was $540 million. The budget was too big to handle and AARP got assistance from the United States Government. The association because of the large government funding has become a political animal in the 2000s, losing the freedom of its original NGO.
The dependence on Government money for funding increases Government influence. One of my favorite FORMER donation projects, "Medecins Sans Frontiers" or known in the U.S. as DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS IS NOW NEAR 50% FUNDED by Government sources. It has increasingly lost its particular special and unique purpose of providing like-nationality doctors to foreign travelers and has become part of the army of doctors for poor countries. Too bad since there are many already dedicated to that sector and none to the sick traveler.
Government funding seems to always change the purpose originally intended by an NGO that formerly filled a specific need or humanitarian intervention. Some NGOs created for individual action groups continue to operate outside government like GREENPEACE because they do not accept funding from governments OR INTERGOVERNMENTAL organizations.
Okay, is there any monitoring or control????????? Well,the UN is interested in becoming the totally controlling agency. UH OH!!!!!!!!!!Isn't the United Nations all about One Worldism and isn't that what Mr. Soros is all about as well.

I haven't found any statistics on how much our Federal Government spends on these private organizations but if the $540MILLION spent in the 1990s on JUST AARP is any indication, we can be assured THAT THE MONEY SPENT COULD BE BUDGETED to our present problems and do the taxpayers a lot more good.

OH WHAT A WEB WE WEAVE WHEN FIRST WE PRACTICE TO DECEIVE

A little this and that this week. Annoying elements of our present economic culture.
First, let me make clear that Tiger Woods earned his fame as well as his infamy and I do not begrudge either or the spoils of his riches. However, if I were a banker in these lean times, would I lend him $54.5 million on his property on Jupiter Island to pay his "ex" her share? Particularly if I considered the state of the economy, the loss of property values, Woods' loss of sponsors, and the state of Woods' recent golf playing and that newly divorced folks are not the best risk. A banker would have to think long and hard to find a plus benefit in all that. Evidently, one did!!!!!!!!!!! I just hope the property doesn't wind up on the tax default list and cost the rest of us.
Well, "they" say illegal immigrants are leaving the United States at a fast rate??????????Like there's somewhere else to go where the economy, politics, or safety is better? If so--what are we waiting for????????
On top of this, one of the newspaper's "erstwhile" journalists felt that he had to point out that the supposed loss of illegal immigrants counted as a large loss to social security. It seems with our present usual honesty and wisdom those illegals have ILLEGAL????????????social security numbers that they and their employers pay into and for which those ILLEGALS will never receive the promised??????compensation for the money the Government collects.
Now I see tons of things wrong with that whole premise. First: doesn't social security check the numbers they give out--you know: stolen, deceased, made up and so forth?????????; second: don't the employers check to make sure they are not paying out money unnecessarily. What kind of FAT pockets do we have here????; Third: if the government knows this is happening, wouldn't it occur to at least one bureaucrat that the statistical figures would be completely SCREWED, GLUED, AND MAYBE EVEN TATTOOED?????????AND THAT THIS WAS A DISHONEST approach????????????
I mean look at it this way. Maybe Social Security is NOT overextended and ready to go bankrupt!!!!!!!!! If there are so many ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS on the SOCIAL SECURITY rolls that don't have to be REIMBURSED with social security payments BUT ARE recorded as LEGITIMATE holders of SOCIAL SECURITY then we don't actually owe ALL that money WE THOUGHT HAD to be paid out!!!!!!!!!!If we don't have to PAY OUT ALL THAT MONEY then SOCIAL SECURITY MAY ACTUALLY BE SOLVENT!!!!!!!!!!

A new twist on Socialist thinking about the economy. The FIRST LOOK program--what a SWELLIGENT--ELEGANT PROGRAM THIS IS!!!!!!!!! UNLESS YOU ARE A PRIVATE INVESTOR WHO MIGHT WANT TO INCREASE YOUR SAVINGS.
This program is designed to take the investment opportunities AWAY from the INDIVIDUAL (THAT ROTTEN SPECULATOR) and give local governments and community groups (I wonder if they mean Socialist groups) using NEIGHBORHOOD STABILIZATION MONEY (a synonym for Government money AS IN YOURS AND MINE Tax money) FIRST CRACK (what a ironic use of words) at buying bank-owned homes (THOSE DIRTY SPECULATORS).
Nearly $6 BILLION OF YOUR MONEY is NATIONALLY earmarked for the program. And an unprecedented agreement has been reached with our largest lenders. This according to the CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency) who admit that those PESKY INDIVIDUAL INVESTORS are getting in the way of the government being able to take over the housing. HORRORS!!!!!!!!!! How could we still believe we HAVE THAT FREEDOM??????????Didn't that other GOVERNMENT ESTEEMED NACA group bully that idea out of existence when they corralled people by telling them "WE LOVES YOU--WE HELPS YOU". (that's a line from an old play pointing up the idea of an enabling that "ain't").
This is a little off the Economic agenda although for fishermen or beach goers, it's right on! Remember when??????????we used to go to the beach and any dead fish was up for grabs for bait (AS LONG IT DIDN'T STINK?????) Well maybe you never used the expression "EITHER FISH OR CUT BAIT" but trust me it was freedom to be enjoyed.
NOT NOW. A poor sixty year old fisherman saw the BAIT OR FISH OF A LIFETIME on Florida's beach. A DEAD WHALE. And he preceded to CUT BAIT or a MEAL and got detained by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission for mutilating an endangered species.
IT WAS ENDANGERED ALL RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS DEAD AS A DOORNAIL but it seems he interfered with the Government Agencies' right to examine WHOLE ENDANGERED SPECIES. A partial WHALE SIMPLY WON'T DO. Give me a break Government officials, LIGHTEN UP!!!!!!!!!!EASE UP!!!!!!!!!!and try to see THE TREES INSTEAD OF THE FOREST. The man liked fish and saw a REALLY BIG DEAD FISH--LET HIM FEED ON IT.
Okay, last but not least and the economics of this are subtle but costly. The controversy over a Mosque BEING BUILT near the site of the Twin Towers in New York where mainly CHRISTIANS AND JEWS BUT MOSTLY EASTENERS were killed (very illegal in this country) by the ARABS (where such activity is welcomed and encouraged by the KORAN) has been unofficially rejected as a plan by two-thirds of NEW YORKERS. A less controversial site has been offered in lower Manhattan farther from Ground Zero. That sounds like a better plan but I believe I have come up with the best plan.
PUT THE MOSQUE IN NEW JERSEY and let the Arabs and the Mafia duke it out!!!!!!!!!! Think of the savings in Federal Court costs over the years?????????The Mafia has always claimed to be very pro-American and religious (except when it gets in the way of profit or vendetta) and the Arabs claim that they must purify the land of INFIDELS (except when it gets in the way of profits or vendettas) so I feel they have much common ground on which to co-exist (or not).

How did a man named GEORGE SOROS become a major political donor and become involved in the economics of the United States??????????He was born in Budapest, Hungary on August 12, 1930 and went to the London School of Economics. He is currently categorized as an entrepreneur, currency trader, investor, and political activist. Evidently he has been particularly POLITICALLY ACTIVE in AMERICA and currently is seeking political assistance from our government with exploration for Brazilian oil.
He has spread money around liberally as George Soros whose family was originally Schwartz and he was born a Hungarian Jew. Is he a citizen of the United States?????????I find no evidence of that. He evidently worked in Wall Street firms until the 1970s after his emigration to New York City. He then co-founded the Quantum Fund with partners that created the bulk of his wealth.
That wealth in 2010 was listed in Forbes as 14 billion. He is listed as the 14Th richest person in the United States and the 35Th in the world . Much of that wealth he owes to the benefit of our stock market. Today, Soros' profits are in speculative trading world-wide and in 1992, he was classified as "the man who broke the bank of England" on "Black Wednesday."
Soros has written a number of books predicting the collapse of markets including one in 2008 "The New Paradigm for Financial Markets" when he described a "super bubble" that had built up over the 25 years and was ready to collapse. Soros has developed in our country (and others) a SHADOW PARTY to carry out his goals. Those goals were originally based on his early economic studies in England with the philosopher, Karl Popper, who taught him the concept of "the open society". The open society theory was to be used as a "test and evaluation" and was followed by many of the western powers, especially regarding social reform and as an approach to societal engineering.
The former United States Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker (and I question his ethical values) wrote the foreword to Soros' book "The Alchemy of Finance" that described Soros' actions as "devoted to encouraging transitional and emerging nations to become 'open societies'; open not only in the sense of freedom of commerce but-more important-tolerant of new ideas and different modes of thinking and behavior."

His philosophy of modern life is not a popular one though completely practical based on his vision of reality. In fact in former days, he would have been seen as a pragmatist who bases his philosophy on the real world and reality as he envisions it.
Since Soros is all over the world interfering in other people's business in order to promote his own interests and his theories of how the world should be run, I find him to be HIS OWN WORST ENEMY. His ideas have propelled the world into situations that will likely explode in turmoil and war and end up alienating people from each other. You cannot conduct open society or one-worldism in a hostile environment without violent conflict so that the likelihood of change proves futile within that hostile environment. People retreat into their own vantage points and ideals and close out new ones. The sooner Soros' belief in euthanasia includes his own, the better off the world will become.

LEARN FROM OUR ENEMIES AS WELL AS FRIENDS

The economic news that went out this week is not good. Forecasts that we are heading for a deeper and wider depression are rattling the windows at the White House. Although as news goes, it is based on assumption as is the whole field of finance.
What depressed the markets most practically was the the jump in unemployment to 500,000 in the second week in August since a modest drop was expected. The manufacturing sector showed a 13-month low in August, a substantial drop from July. These factors have diminished growth hopes as British retail sales rose and Germany's central bank predicted up forecasts of 3%.
It is an interesting comparison between Britain's recent gains and our losses. The election of David Cameron and a coalition government in Britain over 3 months ago was greeted by hisses and boos from the Socialistic government that has been running the UK into the RED, literally in recent years.
Pundits in the US have said that Cameron could be Obama's worst nightmare if Cameron's austerity campaign to reduce Britain's record peacetime budget deficit proved popular.
And so it has thus far. After 100 days of strong fiscal cuts in the top heavy Government programs, a majority of voters in Britain felt that the cuts were working and that Cameron's program of reducing benefits and entitlements was proving successful. The voters have indicated that they feel he can be trusted to make the right decisions for the economy, particularly since it was believed that Britain would look like it had suffered a lack of stability if fast corrections had not been made.
Britain's austerity plan is based on BUILDING a foundation for economic growth with a "fairer" view of society as well as allaying market suspicions "that Britain does not have the will to pay her way in the world", according to the deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg. The reaction to OVER THE TOP Government spending is being rejected by Britains. 'THE ROAD TO SERFDOM", a book written by Friedrich von Hayek, was recently revived and tops reading lists.
What does this mean for America? Hopefully, we can learn from the ultimate failure of British socialism and stop the headlong rush into the expansion of bills and programs that further the likelyhood of a bankruptcy situation in our land. A deficit can only be controlled by a more balanced outlook in the Congress. The US has to look to the elections this year to create that balance.
Americans are beginning to see the need for fiscal austerity but realize there are no clear cut or long range solutions for making the large deficits go away short of disaster. Solutions must be created within the Congress. The problems created by the huge health care reform bill booned by Obama and passed by the Congress has focused public attention on the problems of paying for it with monies we simply don't have after a major depression. Bad timing all the way around!!!!!!!!!!!! Raising taxes on diminished incomes is the road to poverty.
I read in the newspaper that when Obama was in China, the Premier asked him why he wanted to push the Health Care bill. China has had to back off most of its health care REFORM because of financial overloads. The East was always faster with the ABACUS (the origin of fast math before the computer) than the West!
IRONIC!!!!!!!!!!! Believe it.
The central tenet of national health care of the Chinese Communist program could not continue in that country because it was too EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!! So while the Chinese Government reduced its health care and adopted Western standards of Wall Street type markets and business competition, the US passed a massive program without the wherewithall to pay for it!!!!!!!!!GIVE ME A BREAK-HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO LEARN FROM OUR ENEMIES AS WELL AS OUR FRIENDS???????????
The problems seem to develop in this country when we don't attempt that difficult MIDDLE of the ROAD balance. As mundane as that term may be, achieving a sensible balance is the hardest of all economic political philosophies.
Obama's policies have taken America far off center on the left into socialism and he has convinced Congress to follow him. He has refused to hear the American voters and their concern for his actions. His policies only offer increased taxation in an attempt to accomodate the costs and America has become too poor in this depression to be able to pay the bill. Really bad timing!!!!!! Will China (to whom we owe mucho debt) FORECLOSE on our HOUSEHOLD OF AMERICA????????????? If we bankrupt our country, then that possibility exists.
The crisis in the next two elections will rest on getting the Congress back into a more stable position and backing a President with ideas based on A REAL MIDDLE OF THE ROAD position that works best for our form of Government.
Whatever you decide about fiscal austerity and spendiferous spending, please go to the polls and make your choice known by choosing candidates who reflect your opinions and voting out the candidates who don't. And protect your polling places from any undue influence by those who seek to thwart your rights!!!!!!!!!!!

FREEDOM IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
You'll have to indulge me this week. My birthday is near and I must admit I have seen a few of them.
Enough so that the over the top rhetoric of forty-some year old prophets doesn't move me to agree. I've been there, done that, and at some point have lived to regret some of my own prophesizing. When I've seen some of the things I advocated, advanced twenty years later, when it no longer made sense because time and tide had moved on, I wince. I was often thankful that I did not write the book I envisioned in those days because I'd have to have seen it all come true TOO LATE TO DO ANY GOOD.
However, anyone without some regrets at my age either has done little with their talents and time or is still too stupid to understand that even the best intentioned can be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Someone I was very fond of years ago told me "It is just as bad to be ahead of your time as behind your time" and that is a truism that "coming of age" certainly has proved.
I fought against Communism now called Socialism for most of my adult life. I have not changed my viewpoint. A system that VIRTUALLY ENSLAVES A LARGE BODY OF PEOPLE AND IS RUN BY A SMALL BODY OF PEOPLE IN ORDER TO MAKE AN EVEN SMALLER BODY OF PEOPLE COMFORTABLE is not intellectually practical, sensible or caring no matter how it is touted by those enthused by the ideas. It is simply another route to WORLD POWER or totalitarian domination as the James Bond movies made a lot of loot depicting.
It's a dream passed down by EMPERORS, DICTATORS, DESPOTS, ROYALTY and surprisingly enough, PLATO AND CONFUCIANISM.
It's not a NEW FORM OF GOVERNMENT or a CHANGE as those who would take control, would like you to believe; and I am sure you're way too smart to believe.
There's not much new under the sun. Our form of Government which is a REPUBLIC was loosely based on Aristotle's thinking. Don't we owe a lot to the Greeks??????????Whose success today is a testament to their Philosophers????? But since Aristotle's (not Onassis but the ancient Philosopher) brand of intelligence doesn't fit the World Power mode as well as Plato's, our form of government is not as poplular.
FOR ONE THING, IT TAKES VIGILENCE. It's not easy and not a give away. FREEDOM IS A TOUGH THING TO HOLD. It is elusive, requires hard work, and nothing is FREE. It takes CHARACTER, ABILITY, INDUSTRIOUSNESS, ETHICS, RESPONSIBILITY, HONESTY, and MORALS.
DAMN!!!!!!!!!!
Actually these were all characteristics of most of the Americans who made this country truly great.
If some of our forefathers did not possess all of them, they had a good measure OF THEM and the rest of the group made up the lacks. People who ran in short supply of these ATTRIBUTES were looked down on because they were considered if not BAD, at least LAZY, POORLY RAISED, OR JUST PLAIN STUPID. They were pilliored out of the general group of people who thought themselves more morally perfect. THAT HAS ITS DRAWBACKS AS WELL!!!!!!!!!!
But by and large, our Republic was an attempt at CHANGE and as a political system is VERY NEW at 200+ years so there have NOT been CENTURIES to work out the kinks in it. Therefore, we do make mistakes and big ones.
Not that Communism (Socialism) doesn't make mistakes. They have practiced in other nations trying to get it right. IN FACT I might add here that as long as they have had to get it RIGHT, they haven't done so well. China is still stealing OUR IDEAS to help her impoverished lands.
We seem to be advocating presently "throwing out the baby with the wash water". Dumping our MOSTLY SUCCESSFUL REPUBLIC because we are being told we are BAD PEOPLE who made some mistakes. Those mistakes, by the way, were certainly HELPED ALONG by the people who seek to CONTROL OUR FREEDOM AND CHANGE OUR GOVERNMENT TO A SOCIALIST STATE.
Before we allowed our borders to be overrun, our poverty rate was among the lowest in the world and poverty in this country did not find ragged beggers overrunning our streets as we see traveling across the world. We have always been a generous people AND DON'T LET THE doomsday experts CONFUSE YOU WITH PHONY STATISTICS; our poor could always receive what they needed. We are a GENEROUS, VOLUNTEERING NATION WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF CHARITABLE WORKS. SOME of our homeless chose to live as they do for many reasons, those of us who can't conceive of such a life, find hard to understand.
Perhaps those who chose a homeless lifestyle (as opposed to those who have no choice) are much like the Buddhists in the East, and conceive of FREEDOM rather differently than the average person. They see it as having no personal responsibilities at all. But of course since nothing is FREE one must undergo a certain amount of sacrifice to attain that situation.
We have been hated for our SUCCESS and many gloat about our SUPPOSED FAILURE but it will only be a failure if we do not mend our mistakes and carry forward the dream of our forefathers adopting the attitudes that allow FREEDOM TO survive.
I won't LIVE long enough to see what kind of future THIS GREAT LAND will choose to have in the next fifty years but I'm hoping that I am again AHEAD OF MY TIME by predicting a revolution FOR THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC and with no apologies for ITS SUCCESS.

I was often thankful that I did not write the book I envisioned in those days because I'd have to have seen it all come true TOO LATE TO DO ANY GOOD.
However, anyone without some regrets at my age either has done little with their talents and time or is still too stupid to understand that even the best intentioned can be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Someone I was very fond of years ago told me "It is just as bad to be ahead of your time as behind your time" and that is a truism that "coming of age" certainly has proved.
I fought against Communism now called Socialism for most of my adult life. I have not changed my viewpoint. A system that VIRTUALLY ENSLAVES A LARGE BODY OF PEOPLE AND IS RUN BY A SMALL BODY OF PEOPLE IN ORDER TO MAKE AN EVEN SMALLER BODY OF PEOPLE COMFORTABLE is not intellectually practical, sensible or caring no matter how it is touted by those enthused by the ideas. It is simply another route to WORLD POWER or totalitarian domination as the James Bond movies made a lot of loot depicting.
It's a dream passed down by EMPERORS, DICTATORS, DESPOTS, ROYALTY and surprisingly enough, PLATO AND CONFUCIANISM.
It's not a NEW FORM OF GOVERNMENT or a CHANGE as those who would take control, would like you to believe; and I am sure you're way too smart to believe.
There's not much new under the sun. Our form of Government which is a REPUBLIC was loosely based on Aristotle's thinking. Don't we owe a lot to the Greeks??????????Whose success today is a testament to their Philosophers????? But since Aristotle's (not Onassis but the ancient Philosopher) brand of intelligence doesn't fit the World Power mode as well as Plato's, our form of government is not as poplular.
FOR ONE THING, IT TAKES VIGILENCE. It's not easy and not a give away. FREEDOM IS A TOUGH THING TO HOLD. It is elusive, requires hard work, and nothing is FREE. It takes CHARACTER, ABILITY, INDUSTRIOUSNESS, ETHICS, RESPONSIBILITY, HONESTY, and MORALS.
DAMN!!!!!!!!!!
Actually these were all characteristics of most of the Americans who made this country truly great.
If some of our forefathers did not possess all of them, they had a good measure OF THEM and the rest of the group made up the lacks. People who ran in short supply of these ATTRIBUTES were looked down on because they were considered if not BAD, at least LAZY, POORLY RAISED, OR JUST PLAIN STUPID. They were pilliored out of the general group of people who thought themselves more morally perfect. THAT HAS ITS DRAWBACKS AS WELL!!!!!!!!!!
But by and large, our Republic was an attempt at CHANGE and as a political system is VERY NEW at 200+ years so there have NOT been CENTURIES to work out the kinks in it. Therefore, we do make mistakes and big ones.
Not that Communism (Socialism) doesn't make mistakes. They have practiced in other nations trying to get it right. IN FACT I might add here that as long as they have had to get it RIGHT, they haven't done so well. China is still stealing OUR IDEAS to help her impoverished lands.
We seem to be advocating presently "throwing out the baby with the wash water". Dumping our MOSTLY SUCCESSFUL REPUBLIC because we are being told we are BAD PEOPLE who made some mistakes. Those mistakes, by the way, were certainly HELPED ALONG by the people who seek to CONTROL OUR FREEDOM AND CHANGE OUR GOVERNMENT TO A SOCIALIST STATE.
Before we allowed our borders to be overrun, our poverty rate was among the lowest in the world and poverty in this country did not find ragged beggers overrunning our streets as we see traveling across the world. We have always been a generous people AND DON'T LET THE doomsday experts CONFUSE YOU WITH PHONY STATISTICS; our poor could always receive what they needed. We are a GENEROUS, VOLUNTEERING NATION WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF CHARITABLE WORKS. SOME of our homeless chose to live as they do for many reasons, those of us who can't conceive of such a life, find hard to understand.
Perhaps those who chose a homeless lifestyle (as opposed to those who have no choice) are much like the Buddhists in the East, and conceive of FREEDOM rather differently than the average person. They see it as having no personal responsibilities at all. But of course since nothing is FREE one must undergo a certain amount of sacrifice to attain that situation.
We have been hated for our SUCCESS and many gloat about our SUPPOSED FAILURE but it will only be a failure if we do not mend our mistakes and carry forward the dream of our forefathers adopting the attitudes that allow FREEDOM TO survive.
I won't LIVE long enough to see what kind of future THIS GREAT LAND will choose to have in the next fifty years but I'm hoping that I am again AHEAD OF MY TIME by predicting a revolution FOR THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC and with no apologies for ITS SUCCESS.

More on immigration since it's the hot economic top that will impact our tax dollars, jobs and all manner of other economic liabilities.
Now we're clear, I assume, that we are all in favor of LEGAL IMMIGRATION and find it part of our heritage and culture. If you aren't even in favor of that--just stop reading now.
Helping ILLEGAL aliens who already live and work in the U.S. is very noble sounding if they are WORKING and have been here for many years. We need to find a LEGAL way for them to reenter the country LEGALLY immediately so they do not lose their jobs and can find relief from fear.
However, the problem remains that when you REWARD the current ILLEGALITY, it will proliferate among those who are not intending to be rewarding illegal residents.
Here's a good question: HOW DO WE REPLACE LACK OF RESPECT FOR UNITED STATES LAWS that caused a person to slip in ILLEGALLY in the first place with RESPECT for our laws if we don't honor them ourselves??????????????
Want a good "For instance"?????LOOK AT THE UNDERGROUND DRUG MARKET in the United States for PROOF!!!!!!That's when respect for our laws deteriorated and ordinary citizens and neighbors became lawless like in the Old West. So, if we made ILLEGAL DRUGS LEGAL, we could collect TAXES on all that illegal contraband and UNDERGROUND MONEY that could easily pay our heavy burden PLACED ON US BY RECENT CONGRESSIONAL BILLS.
As illegal drugs proliferated and OBVIOUSLY POWERFUL INTERESTS entered the illegal markets, the eroding of our laws began. I read once a long time ago that ITALY had two basic economies, ONE UNDERGROUND and one GOVERNMENT controlled. In other words one that was legal and one that was illegal. I guess we have all become more ITALIAN than we realized. IT'S PROBABLY ALL THE PIZZA AND PASTA!!!!!!!!!!!
What does this have to do with ILLEGAL ALIENS?????????? EITHER WE FOLLOW THE LAWS IN OUR SYSTEM OR WE MUST CHANGE THEM!!! BUT>>>>>>>and this is a BIG BUTT (equated with the same part of anatomy that we seem to be using for thinking) we don't change them to allow ILLEGALITY TO FLOURISH.
There is little quarrel with the idea that we need to restructure the Immigration system to reflect the reality that exists today. The answer is with some CREATIVE IDEAS OF LEGALITY instead of fostering creative ILLEGALITY. Is it TOO MUCH to ask our ELECTED OFFICIALS who are sworn to UPHOLD OUR LAWS DO SO??????????? WHY ARE WE NOT ASKING OUR CREATIVE THINKERS (and that's not necessarily our lawyers--to struggle with this problem???????)
Instead of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett having to return to RELATIVE poverty to set an example, let's RATHER ASK that they use their CREATIVE EFFORTS on a "REAL SOLUTIONS TO REAL PROBLEMS" committee. We would all be better served in the long run. Then maybe Congress could enact a reasonable law.

I find this interesting since I understand permanency would depend on further action by the USCIS with Presidential approval, thereby bypassing the voters. If the PRESIDENT has to bypass the voters and Congress, HOW GOOD CAN THE PROPOSED ACTION BE?
A memo from the USCIS (UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION SERVICE) called THE AMNESTY MEMO AND PUBLISHED JULY 29, 2010 was leaked to the web and followed up by a few members of the Press. The Title of the memo is "Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform" which considers a number of alternatives ( the memo is supposedly still in the THINKING STAGE) to legalize classes of undocumented immigrants, REFUGEES AND ILLEGAL ALIENS (of the sneak OVER THE BORDER type).
Now this may seem attractive on the surface but there is one underlying point that is not harmless. The USCIS memo suggests the increased use of 'DEFERRED ACTION". This is an exercise of prosecutorial discretion about WHETHER to pursue removal from the United States OF a particular individual (OR group of individuals??????) for a specific period of time. The memo mentions that there are no set limits on USCIS's ability to use this deferred action but "does warn that indiscriminate use would be CONTROVERSIAL AND EXPENSIVE".
GOSH, YOU THINK????????Considering it would amount to allowing ILLEGAL ALIENS Amnesty and rights without CONGRESSIONAL Consent! Do you think the rest of us might just OBJECT TO THAT??????? It is understood that our President and his advisors are pursuing this line of thinking in case they are unable to force Congress to confirm an Immigration bill in their image. OH, BOW TO THE IMMORTALS YE PEASANTS--EXCUSE ME YE "LITTLE PEOPLE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The memo also includes extending the grace period for visa holders (not the card) AND making exceptions for children and hardship cases; (I THOUGHT THEY WERE ALL HARDSHIP CASES) among other ways to allow more latitude and longitude.
There is USCIS legislation moving through Congress called THE DREAM ACT (DEVELOPMENT, RELIEF AND EDUCATION FOR ALIEN MINORS ACT). They must have had a contest to come up with that title in order to spell "dream". The act is supposedly designed ONLY for legal alien or ILLEGAL alien students who have completed high school (this now includes 825,000). By the way we, the TAXPAYERS, already PAID FOR THAT EDUCATION.
Federal law mandates that all children, legal or ILLEGAL, have the opportunity of a high school education. (VERY LAUDIBLE) But now those students want to continue their education with the same benefits of reduced rates and scholarships as citizens:AGAIN ON THE TAX PAYERS SHOULDERS AND IN COMPETITION WITH TAXPAYER'S KIDS!!!!!!!!.
(IT'S THE OLD "I'll only eat one piece of your pie--whoops it was so GOOD, I FINISHED IT " Addage).
Okay, I'm all for lots of education but I ALSO know that if you never have to earn anything in life you do not prosper. THE BILL goes on to propose that individuals (LEGAL OR ILLEGAL) who arrived here before age l6 and younger than 34 (?) may apply for conditional permanent residence and stay on the path to LEGAL residence (after six years in the program) as long as they have no problems with the law. They would have to finish at least two years of college or serve two years in the military which is terrific if we ever bother to check and see if it is done.
I saw no mention of a provision in the bill that it needs to have (in my opinion). IF THESE TERMS ARE NOT MET THEN IMMEDIATE DEPORTATION WILL OCCUR WITH NO DELAYS since we all know TEENAGERS MEAN WELL but do not always fulfill their DREAMS. This bill has been going through the Congress since 2001 and Congress has repeatedly seen the potential damage to overall immigration and shot it down. But the GREEDY USERS of Taxpayer money who look for an EASY way out continue to pursue this bill without any real penalties for non compliance within the law. This year they feel Congress will see it as the lesser of two voter evils as compared with the major IMMIGRATION bill.
The argument against not voting for this law is often that children should not be punished by the actions of their parents!!!!!!!We are all punished by the actions of our parents in one way or another--PLEEZE!!!!!!!!!!It's just that some of us are luckier or smarter than others. It's a SIN of BIRTH.
These are not yet final decisions on Immigration and I have no quarrel with the idea we need to restructure the system but how about some creative ideas of LEGALITY instead of CREATIVE ILLEGALITY??????????? Is that TOO MUCH to ask of our elected officials who are sworn to UPHOLD OUR LAWS!

OOOHHH-DID YOU HEAR WALL STREET BARFED AND THE GOVERNMENT WIPED IT UP!

The new 2200 PAGE bill designed to STOP RISKY BEHAVIOR on Wall St. (CAN WE HAVE ONE TO STOP RISKY BEHAVIOR IN WASHINGTON???????????!!!!!!!!!) got final approval from the Senate last week and was signed by the President. Since it is so long (AGAIN), we are still awaiting the tasty little tidbits that will fall out of the 2200 pages that are not necessarily about Wall St.
The new bill is supposed to bring a new era of consumer protections and focuses on banking restrictions. Of course, we need more Government regulators, a council to lookout for risks in the financial system and guards for consumers in financial transactions. (SARCASM just in case you think I mean it!) More rules, more paper, more frustration, and probably even LESS effectiveness.
So called Shadow financial markets (THOSE WHICH ESCAPED THE OVERSIGHT OF REGULATORS?????????????? I THOUGHT THEY ALL DID) are now under scrutiny and (GET THIS ONE) it gives the GOVERNMENT more Power to break up companies that THEY claim threaten the economy. If you cannot think of a dozen ways that politicians can misuse that one then you are not really trying.

Large, failing companies would be liquidated or broken up with the costs assessed to surviving peers (NOW WHAT EXACTLY THAT MEANS WILL GIVE THE LAWYERS A FEW DAYS IN COURT). Hidden fees and unreasonable terms on loans will be controlled and ability of the borrower to repay will be established. (Believe it or not BANKERS USED to MAKE LOANS based on whether YOU COULD PAY THEM BACK!!!!!!!mind boggling, isn't it??)
Unfortunately, the Federal Reserve gets some more power in all this but with Congressional oversight. (uh huh, uh, huh we've played that game before-FEDS PLAY CONGRESS-FEDS WIN 10-0). PLUEEZE!
Many of the provisions of the new law won't go into effect until 2011 plus since regulators have to write new rules and then figure out how to enforce the new rules. (YOU KNOW THE SAME WAY THEY ENFORCE OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS!!!!!!!)
Among the outcomes of this bill is an immense new power over private business. There will be a DIRECTOR of the INDEPENDENT CONSUMER PROTECTION BUREAU. This agency replaces the protection powers of current banking regulators. The Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection is a big expansion of Government power over individual private businesses and banking, cornerstones of our FREE ECONOMY. This was bitterly fought by large banking institutions and the Chamber of Commerce in a losing battle because it will regulate mortgages, credit cards, and simple payday loans as well as all forms of finance.
At least an exception for businesses considered too small to be a risk to the financial system was included! (WHATEVER MOM AND POP BUSINESSES THAT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SURVIVE ARE NOT CONSIDERED A THREAT. BRILLIANT!!!!!!)
There will also be a Financial Services Oversight Council composed of the Treasury secretary, the Federal Reserve Chairman and the heads of regulatory agencies that will monitor financial markets and looking for potential threats to the nation's financial system. (GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!PERHAPS THEY'D BETTER START WITH GOVERNMENT SPENDING OF 12.5 TRILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!)
The bill does force credit rating firms NOT TO ALLOW RATINGS to issuers of debt-backed securities in public sale documents (like hedge funds of commercial risk) by threat of lawsuit. So that folks will know they are buying SCUM at their own risk.
The President promised that "the American people will never be asked again to foot the bill for Wall Street's mistakes" However, the Government's mistakes with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae that helped to prime the pump that caused the meltdown of the economy remain on the taxpayer's bill!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately traditional banks that held to reasonable rules and good loans will be penalized by the bill as well with additional costs. (EVIDENTLY WE HAVE REACHED A PERIOD IN HISTORY WHEN ONE SHOE FITS ALL AND EXCEPTIONS CANNOT BE CONSIDERED!!!!!!!)
In a nutshell "the bill targets potentially lucrative trading in risky over-the-counter derivatives and aims to force certain banks to end trading for their own profits." Good, but unfortunately, Congress cannot put things in the "nutshell" as 2200 pages attests.
The bill also dictates how much reserve (money held in a sort of escrow) companies now require and establishes resolution funds (held aside) that would cover the costs of their dismantling as a potential threat to our society????????? The government could dismantle even healthy firms they considered a grave risk?????to the economy. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp will be allowed to borrow TAXPAYER MONEY from the Treasury temporarily to help cover costs of winding down a large firm and is to be repaid by other large banks over time??????????(Excuse me????IS THIS A 'I AM MY BROTHER'S KEEPER' KIND OF DEBT?I can't explain this one to you) and I cannot not understand why this is not a bail out? What if no one repays???
The Federal Reserve for its obvious lack of oversight in last year's crisis will lose some former power and limits will be set on the Fed's unilateral ability to inject large amounts of money into financial institutions. The bill will also take away the Federal Reserves consumer regulation authority and subject the Federal Reserve to a broad audit by Congress' investigative functionaries. (AH YES--UH HUH)
Shareholders of companies acquire in the bill a NON-BINDING vote on top executive pay. Federal banking regulators have right to approve the compensation practices but not the pay of banks and bank holding companies.
But still no broad controls of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac??????Are they in there????????Did I miss them???????? BETTER QUESTION: Did CONGRESS MISS THEM??????????
The bill also requires 68 studies of various complex and interconnected fields because of its sweeping reforms. The health bill, we are now finding out, had 40 studies which leaves a lot of information of be presented on both bills. Evidently the thorny issue of Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae fell into this category of STUDY FOR FUTURE REFORM!!!!!!!!! (KICK THE DIRT UNDER THE RUG--MAYBE WE'LL NEVER HAVE TO SWEEP IT UP?????) Cost to taxpayers for all these studies???They must be free because the cost was never figured. (JEEZ)
Some of the studies like MORTGAGE FORECLOSURE SCAMS have no deadline or follow-up rules. Others like FINANCIAL LITERACY AMONG INVESTORS have deadlines but require no action. The study on hedge funds and trades on the various banks' accounts has a deadline and mandate for action. What about the two FF's or is it (F...up again?????)
Regulators have up to two years to write many new required regulations which prolongs uncertainty and there will be a lot of lobbying going on in that time.
Certainly reform of some kind was needed as we've explored in these blogs previously. But why not let WALL STREET CLEAN UP ITS OWN MESS with Government oversight?????Why more new bills costing taxpayers "mucho dinero" and more useless agencies?? Why not let Congress take care of the concerns brought on by previous bills that activated things like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac???????? Because it's the political fodder (the old feed bag) that counts here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Making politicians look good to a public who thinks Big Government is the solution to all of life's problems.

ECONOMIC SLANGWICH FOR YOUR EDIFICATION POST 33
Hi,
We'll do a few definitions again because much of what we need to know about economics requires knowledge of the language. Thanks to a "Journalist's Guide to Economic Terms" on the Internet for some of these.
ACTIVIST FISCAL POLICY: means the use of federal government taxing, spending, and borrowing powers to stimulate economic growth and employment.
ANTITRUST LAWS: used to promote open markets by limiting practices that reduce competition.
AUTOMATIC STABILIZERS: Measures built into the government's budget that cause its spending to increase and tax revenues decrease (LIKE THAT HAPPENS these days???!!!) when the economy goes into slumps, and the expenditures do the opposite in a boom.
BALANCE OF PAYMENTS: a record of all financial transactions between U.S. and rest of world in a year.
CAPITALIST ECONOMY: a market economy that guides choices on production and distribution of goods and usually privately owned productive resources.
CENTRAL BANK INTERVENTION: a central bank is formed to buy U.S. currency and foreign currency to drive it up or down in value and and to sell U.S. currency for foreign currency when desired or needed.
CETA: Comprehensive Employment and Training Act is federally funded local government retraining and employment agency for difficult- to-hire workers.
CPI: Consumer price index of the average price paid for goods and services as measured against the average price paid for the same goods or services in a designated past year by a consumer.
COMMUNIST ECONOMY: an economy totally reliant on a centralized government with no individual input or private capital.
DEFICIT SPENDING: the Government spends more than it receives in taxes (WHAT ELSE IS NEW????).
DISCOUNT RATE: the interest a private bank pays for a loan from the U.S. Federal Reserve System (THAT BIG BANK IN THE SKY).
DISPOSABLE INCOME: the amount the individual has after taxes to pay personal bills. (THE PART THAT GETS DISPOSED OF RAPIDLY)
EXCHANGE RATE: the price of one currency in terms of another. (WHY YOU EXCHANGE YOUR MONEY OR NOT WHEN YOU TRAVEL OVERSEAS)
FEDERAL DEBT: The current TRILLION DOLLARS sum of obligations both past and present minus ANY?????? surpluses.
FISCAL POLICY: Government expenditures, tax and borrowing decisions, affecting the level of national economic activity. (LATELY IT'S BEEN SPINNING LIKE A TOP).
GOVERNMENT BUDGET CONSTRAINT: Total government outlays MUST EQUAL total revenue of taxes and loans. (WHEN YOU LEARN THIS ONE--PLEASE SEND A LETTER TO YOUR CONGRESSMAN SO THAT HE CAN LEARN IT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!
GNP=GROSS NATIONAL PRODUCT: total market value of ALL goods and services produced in the U.S. per year.
IMF: International Monetary Fund is the overseer for the exchange rate system and international monetary relationship.
LIBERTARIANISM: the belief that government's role should be minimum and rarely interfere in the lives of private citizens. (CONSTANT INTERFERENCE IS SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM AND makes NON-private citizens, Comrade)!!!!!!!!!!
MARKET ECONOMY: a decentralized system where buyers and seller interact. ie: FANNIE MAE AND FREDDY MAC and numerous other government programs changed that definition by the addition of government rules over the years, which changed the MARKET ECONOMY.
All of which helped lead to the current Economic disaster. The 2010 WALL STREET MARKET BILL will also radically change the current market even more. Those in Government, who approve of the new bill failed to understand or own up to their part in the market failure and continue to see " interference rather than ethics" as a cure. We will cover the new bill in future blogs.
We'll do some more definitions in future blogs as well because it's easier to take in a limited quantity of make-over language (CALLED SLANGWICH IN MY BOOK) and explanations.
