The $300 million price tag GETS a quarterly accounting job with a system that doesn't really work and the local budget director says:"I think the estimates of the number of jobs that would be created from the stimulus bill were optimistic. I think more jobs were promised or estimated than reasonable to expect."

Now folks, that's a $300 million project just in a "lil ole" town in a "lil ole" state in a country with 50 of them--oh, that's right Obama just counts 47 to fund. TECHNOLOGY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CREATE A NATION OF INDOLENTS WHO SCAVENGE FOR EXISTENCE! POST 146

This blogger has a favorite saying. NO ONE IS PERFECT. Now that works both ways. No it's not bilingual !!!!!!!! It means that NO ONE IS PERFECTLY GOOD OR PERFECTLY BAD !!!!!!!!!! And so it was for the New York Times this week with NYT conservative columnist, Ross Douthat, this week ENTITLED, "A world without work"..
This blogger rarely agrees with the NYT. these days BUT IT'S NOT PERFECT and Ross Douthat's column on the job-market drop outs rang a bell. He pointed out that the DECLINE IN WORK AND JOBS "isn't unemployment in the usual sense"...."It's a kind of post-employment, in which people drop out of the workforce and find ways to live, more or less permanently, without a steady job". Unfortunately, Douthat goes on to explore only briefly the reason for the change and fails to mention the TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION changing job needs and reducing the needed work force but only alludes to it so he can praise the socialist programs now in force to take care of the "blue collar workers" being displaced.
Too bad Mr. Douthat didn't do some more homework on the displacement of agricultural workers, small businesses and farmers after the Industrial Revolution and a look at the jobs and prosperity that created eventually. The same category of people, whom he calls blue collar workers today, are now being displaced by the Technological Revolution and will as during the Industrial Revolution need RETRAINING but for technology. He spends a lot his column blathering about Utopian ideas of most citizens never having to work. That seems to be inherent in the ideals of socialism. Never having to work like the wealthy Romans. Problem with that ideal is the trouble the Romans got into being idle !!!!!!!!!
However, Utopia as the Romans found out, is an illusion resting on the edge of complete failure. Yes, technology is creating a work gap so that now machines are run by other little technological forces or apps. So, retraining is needed, but what do we retrain folks to do ????????????,
BUT AND THIS IS A "BIG BUTT" !!!!!!!!!!! THE WONDERS OF THE TECH WORLD ARE IN THEIR INFANCY WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ADDITIONS ARE ON THE HORIZON AND WHAT JOBS WILL BE CREATED OR DESTROYED BY THOSE INNOVATIONS AND WHAT JOBS WILL BE CREATED WITHIN TECHNOLOGY AND HOW LONG WILL THEY LAST !!!!!!!!!!

Well Mr. Douthat's answer seems to be to continue to provide subsidies (same socialist answers even from NYT's supposed CONSERVATIVE columnist to any problem) for those with little income and provide social gatherings for the lonely (and educate the grateful into socialist thought ????????) that would replace the community of family, religion, work, and neighborhood that he claims is "a piece with the broader turn-away" from these elements of declining social interaction. He says: "In a sense the old Utopians were prescient: We've gained a world where steady work is less necessary to man's survival than ever before."

This blogger has a favorite saying. NO ONE IS PERFECT. Now that works both ways. No it's not bilingual !!!!!!!! It means that NO ONE IS PERFECTLY GOOD OR PERFECTLY BAD !!!!!!!!!! And so it was for the New York Times this week with NYT conservative columnist, Ross Douthat, this week ENTITLED, "A world without work"..
This blogger rarely agrees with the NYT. these days BUT IT'S NOT PERFECT and Ross Douthat's column on the job-market drop outs rang a bell. He pointed out that the DECLINE IN WORK AND JOBS "isn't unemployment in the usual sense"...."It's a kind of post-employment, in which people drop out of the workforce and find ways to live, more or less permanently, without a steady job". Unfortunately, Douthat goes on to explore only briefly the reason for the change and fails to mention the TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION changing job needs and reducing the needed work force but only alludes to it so he can praise the socialist programs now in force to take care of the "blue collar workers" being displaced.
Too bad Mr. Douthat didn't do some more homework on the displacement of agricultural workers, small businesses and farmers after the Industrial Revolution and a look at the jobs and prosperity that created eventually. The same category of people, whom he calls blue collar workers today, are now being displaced by the Technological Revolution and will as during the Industrial Revolution need RETRAINING but for technology. He spends a lot his column blathering about Utopian ideas of most citizens never having to work. That seems to be inherent in the ideals of socialism. Never having to work like the wealthy Romans. Problem with that ideal is the trouble the Romans got into being idle !!!!!!!!!
However, Utopia as the Romans found out, is an illusion resting on the edge of complete failure. Yes, technology is creating a work gap so that now machines are run by other little technological forces or apps. So, retraining is needed, but what do we retrain folks to do ????????????,
BUT AND THIS IS A "BIG BUTT" !!!!!!!!!!! THE WONDERS OF THE TECH WORLD ARE IN THEIR INFANCY WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ADDITIONS ARE ON THE HORIZON AND WHAT JOBS WILL BE CREATED OR DESTROYED BY THOSE INNOVATIONS AND WHAT JOBS WILL BE CREATED WITHIN TECHNOLOGY AND HOW LONG WILL THEY LAST !!!!!!!!!!
EVERYONE IS AVOIDING THE ARTICULATION OF THOSE PROBLEMS. BECAUSE WE DON'T REALLY KNOW YET AND WHO WANTS TO BE THE DUM DUM THAT ADMITS WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS WE'VE CREATED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well Mr. Douthat's answer seems to be to continue to provide subsidies (same socialist answers even from NYT's supposed CONSERVATIVE columnist to any problem) for those with little income and provide social gatherings for the lonely (and educate the grateful into socialist thought ????????) that would replace the community of family, religion, work, and neighborhood that he claims is "a piece with the broader turn-away" from these elements of declining social interaction. He says: "In a sense the old Utopians were prescient: We've gained a world where steady work is less necessary to man's survival than ever before."
This blogger has other ideas. LET'S GET BACK TO ESSENTIALS !!!!! PROVIDE MORE COMMUNITY INTERACTIONS IN RELIGION. BOOST FAMILY VALUES SO THAT THEY ONCE AGAIN GAIN IMPORTANCE. AFTER ALL PARENTS TEACH THAT !!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RENEW NEIGHBORHOOD INTERACTION-- knowing your neighbors creates interested NEIGHBOR watchers. GOOD CHOICES BRING BENEFITS. BAD CHOICES BRING RUIN--POST 145..

This blogger is sitting here thinking about all the problems that need to be addressed and wondering why there are always so many.However, it seems that if we don't have enough problems, we often set out to make some more for ourselves.
I guess that's where the leader of the Chinese communist revolution, Mao Zedong got the idea that CONSTANT REVOLUTION was the way to make Communism the only control IN CHINA. He almost destroyed China doing it and if there hadn't been so many Chinese, he WOULD have destroyed it. Mao saw people as expendable and particularly in China where the population was the largest in the world. It was not unusual for him to conduct a Communist plan that killed millions as he turned not only FOES into CORPSES BUT AT THE END POLITICAL FRIENDS INTO CORPSES as well. His megalomania was truly frightening when like a conductor he led his country in a CRESCENDO OF KILLING AND DESTRUCTION.
When we speak of socialism and communism, we often FORGET the excesses that Lenin, Mao, Stalin and Hitler believed were acceptable in furthering their cause. The total sacrifice of death was seen as just and good (AS LONG AS THE LEADER DIDN'T DIE!!!!!) because in the long run, they BELIEVED the end result would be the triumph of communism. Communism survived but did it triumph??????? NO!!!!!!!!! It is a dying ideology. And why was Mao WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! WRONG!!!!!!!!!! WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! because THE END NEVER JUSTIFIES THE MEANS!!!!!!!!!!!! We've read novels with characters like that and called them MADMEN but when they become leaders of government, we find EXCUSES for their EXCESSES!!!!!! FOOLS THAT WE ARE!!!!!!!!!!!! We jolly ourselves into believing it was all for the best.
UNFORTUNATELY A SINGLE SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT WITH NO OPPOSITION AND LACKING OTHER POINTS OF VIEW LEADS TO LEADERS WITH GIGANTIC MESSIANIC COMPLEXES who become DICTATORS with no checks or balances either in their personalities or their politics. ONCE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO ACHIEVE TOTAL CONTROL, HISTORY PROVES that THEIR COUNTRIES BECOME TOMBS FOR THE POPULATION. And their leaders provide the bodies. OUR FOREFATHERS WERE FAR CLOSER TO THIS REALITY THAN WE HAVE BEEN AS AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!! THEY HAD EXPERIENCED THE MEGALOMANIA IN EUROPE, SEEN THE DEATHS, SEEN THE LOSS OF HUMAN RECKONING BUT THEN IT WAS CALLED TYRANNICAL MONARCHY!!! Therefore, THEY WROTE A CONSTITUTION THAT WOULD PRECLUDE THAT HAPPENING IN AMERICA. JEFFERSON PRECEDED IT WITH THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.
UNFORTUNATELY, MEGALOMANIACS ARE JUST THAT-- SINGLE MINDED AND THEY PUT ALL THEIR ENERGY INTO DESTROYING ANYTHING THAT STANDS IN THE WAY OF THEIR GOALS!!!!!!!!!! AND OUR CONSTITUTION CURRENTLY IS SMACK DAB IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COMMUNIST ROAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you sometimes wonder why POLITICS IS SO IMPORTANT AND THERE'S SO MUCH FUSS ABOUT IT that is tiresome and boring when you have enough of your own problems, LOOK ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!! THOSE PROBLEMS WILL BE NOTHING BEFORE THE GREATEST PROBLEM YOU CAN ENCOUNTER!!!!!!!!!!! DOMINATION BY AN UNWISE, UNCARING, UNSOUND LEADER IN YOUR LIFE. TECHNOLOGY AND DEATH! POST 144

As a writer this blogger has been watching the publishing industry, a PREVIOUSLY highly successful business, WRITHING in the death throes of the technological revolution!!!!!!!!!!!
Five publishing houses attempted to stop Amazon and other tech.coms from discounting and giving away e-books in what a law suit claimed was "Agency pricing". The financial risks in a Government suit against five publishers and Apple became too great and most settled. Publisher Macmillan desired to continue the fight but found itself naked and in a position to be responsible for damages far exceeding their company's total worth. Macmillan caved as well.
So, Amazon, the technological giant of .com won hands down and the publishing companies were left licking their wounds. While protecting themselves, the publishing group could have benefitted authors and books as well, a role top publishers gave lip service to in the past. Unfortunately poor practice left them unsuccessful at defense.
These are the same PUBLISHING COMPANIES THAT ONLY A SHORT TIME AGO were DICTATING TO THE AUTHORS AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT WHAT THEY COULD WRITE IF THEY WANTED TO BE PUBLISHED AND TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT THEIR READING HABITS AND THE COST OF BOOKS .
The old saying WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND is totally apropos here. The talented authors who have bitten the dust BECAUSE OF THE PUBLISHING INDUSTRIES BOTTOM LINE COST APPROACH TO PUBLISHING WRITERS could fill a LARGE TOMB. Their uncaring REJECTION SLIPS DECLARING WORKS UNFIT (NO REASON NEEDED) destroyed many sensitive would-be authors (and what aspiring new author has not received one or more of those gems). PUBLISHERS BECAME FAT AND RICH ON THE BACKS OF THE TALENTED AUTHORS who often received little compensation UNTIL THEY 'MADE' IT !!!!!!!!!!!!! OR BETTER PUT-MADE THE PUBLISHER RICH!!!!!!!!!

As a writer this blogger has been watching the publishing industry, a PREVIOUSLY highly successful business, WRITHING in the death throes of the technological revolution!!!!!!!!!!!
Five publishing houses attempted to stop Amazon and other tech.coms from discounting and giving away e-books in what a law suit claimed was "Agency pricing". The financial risks in a Government suit against five publishers and Apple became too great and most settled. Publisher Macmillan desired to continue the fight but found itself naked and in a position to be responsible for damages far exceeding their company's total worth. Macmillan caved as well.
So, Amazon, the technological giant of .com won hands down and the publishing companies were left licking their wounds. While protecting themselves, the publishing group could have benefitted authors and books as well, a role top publishers gave lip service to in the past. Unfortunately poor practice left them unsuccessful at defense.
These are the same PUBLISHING COMPANIES THAT ONLY A SHORT TIME AGO were DICTATING TO THE AUTHORS AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT WHAT THEY COULD WRITE IF THEY WANTED TO BE PUBLISHED AND TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT THEIR READING HABITS AND THE COST OF BOOKS .
The old saying WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND is totally apropos here. The talented authors who have bitten the dust BECAUSE OF THE PUBLISHING INDUSTRIES BOTTOM LINE COST APPROACH TO PUBLISHING WRITERS could fill a LARGE TOMB. Their uncaring REJECTION SLIPS DECLARING WORKS UNFIT (NO REASON NEEDED) destroyed many sensitive would-be authors (and what aspiring new author has not received one or more of those gems). PUBLISHERS BECAME FAT AND RICH ON THE BACKS OF THE TALENTED AUTHORS who often received little compensation UNTIL THEY 'MADE' IT !!!!!!!!!!!!! OR BETTER PUT-MADE THE PUBLISHER RICH!!!!!!!!!

WHO'S ON DRONE BOMB WATCH? POST POST 143
Hi,
There's a new cost in our economy that Washington doesn't wish to discuss. It would prove far more controversial than even Gun Control. It's DRONES AND THEIR DEPLOYMENT by our Government.
This blogger has discussed DRONES before and mentioned that they are the new weaponry of the twenty-first century. They are reasonably easy to deploy, technology makes them pin-point accurate and even a do-it- yourselfer could actually make a simple version and send it soaring into space. They are the mavericks of the weapon world and as such offer many plus and minus options. There are a number of good articles on DRONES on the web.
The kinds of pros and cons that exist on all weaponry are in place here as well. First, drones can make human life more secure because they are unmanned and operated by folks far away from the actual violent action. The controller sits at desk in technology filled cubicles controlling particular drones or armies of them. The controllers use technology so precise that they could SEPARATE YOU OUT even walking down the street in Manhattan or Baghdad among dozens of others.
Explosion is messy in a crowd so usually isolating the target is preferred.
Of course, you can see the downside. If it works on the enemy in another land, it will also work in this country on unfriendly opposition. In the hands of a Charlatan, it could serve to enslave us.
Beyond JUST the DRONE problem is the surveillance issue. Our technology is so finely tuned that listening from DRONES is better than your hearing when talking to another person. They have developed "ears over the land" that are more sensitive than anything EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
LAUNCH A DRONE CAPSULE BARELY VISIBLE, ARMED AND LOADED, EMPLOYING AVID TECHNOLOGICAL HEARING, AND PIN-POINT ACCURACY AND YOU HAVE THE MOST DEADLY TARGETED WEAPON THAT MAN HAS EVER DEVISED!!!!!!!!!!! AIN'T WE JUST TOO, TOO SMART???????? TOO BAD WE CAN'T TURN THE SMART TO BETTER AIMS.

Drones are now known that are inches and launched in masses like bees or wasps.
Two positive elements of DRONE warfare is that damage is much less when confined to a target. Many FEWER lives are lost and a much reduced military force is required to contain and control the enemy without as well as within. THEREFORE, THE ECONOMIC COSTS OF A LARGE MILITARY AND THEIR LAND WEAPONS IS CONSIDERABLY REDUCED. HOWEVER, JUST HOW HIGH THE COST DRONE WARFARE COULD CLIMB IS DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE. WE KNOW THE WAR SURVEILLANCE COSTS WOULD ALSO DIMINISH WITH FEWER SPOOKS ON THE GROUND BUT HOW HIGH WILL BE THE COST OF EQUIPMENT??????WHO KNOWS.
An article from the AP this week pointed out that a Justice Department memo revealed lenient rules for drone attacks launched "to kill U.S. citizens working abroad with terrorists". The article went on to say the Government does not need evidence that a specific attack is imminent" according the Justice Department white paper, "only that the targeted suspect is involved in ongoing plotting against the United States". Washington spokesmen used protecting the U.S. from al-Qaida as the reason for this usage of drones. John Brennan, who recently helped manage the Drone program, has his CIA director confirmation hearing beginning today.
IN THE HANDS of the UNSCRUPULOUS OR THE CARELESS, IT IS NOT HARD TO PREDICT THE CATASTROPHIC PROBLEMS THIS KIND OF CONTROL CAN MEAN TO NATIONS AND AMERICA IN PARTICULAR. We are currently in the LEAD ON VARYING MILITARY DRONE TECHNOLOGIES BUT ATOMIC WARFARE TAUGHT US JUST HOW LONG THAT WILL LAST-- headstart Drone tech may not LAST THAT LONG.Many countries have technological capability now so it may take much less time for them to catch up.

Eventually the technology can expand to the extent that it could be used in construction in place of heavy equipment; for most search and rescue; and as an independent source of transportation for individuals. That's just off the top of my head. Our creative culture can think of many more and better options. Surveillance is a horse of another hue. That kind of paternalism, excused as protectionism, can only lead to discontent and travail.
