The rantings and ravings of the over-protective in our society are getting truly ridiculous!!!!! An 85 year old woman on a walker gets strip searched at an airport; a teacher goes ballistic when a tiny student in grade school calls her "cute"! PUL..........EEEEZE!!! GIVE IT A REST!!!!!!!!!!
BE SURE NOT TO BLOW YOUR NOSE ON THE CORNER OF 5TH AND MAIN--THERE'S BOUND TO BE A LAW PASSED, OR ORDINANCE OR RULE AGAINST IT. YOU DON'T WANT TO GET ARRESTED, DO YOU????????
It has gotten that ludicrous. It was a nice thing we did--protecting our children and our grandchildren but I'm sorry I have to say, we have produced generations of TOO MANY OVER ZEALOUS, OVER-ALARMED, AND OVER-REACTIVE WIMPS!!!!!!!!!!! And the cost of all this so-called protection from harm is alarming in terms of transporation costs, local and national security costs, and government costs.
WHO TOLD US WE HAD A RIGHT TO BE TOTALLY SAFE AND SECURE????????? COME ON!!!!!!!!!!! LIFE IS CRAP SHOOT. YOU WIN SOME. YOU LOSE SOME. It is not a nice safe haven for us to traverse. IT NEVER WAS!!!!!!! WAR WAS NOT THE ONLY ISSUE OF DANGER!!!!!!!! How many folks get hit by cars, die in home-related accidents, ride their bikes to disaster and so on. There are more ways to die from THE CARELESSNESS OF OTHERS than I care to count. AND IS IT ONLY THE REALLY BAD GUYS THAT MEAN YOU HARM or could it be your HARMLESS?????? ex-lover who bears you ill-will????????? The list of what could befall you in life goes on and on. WISE UP PLEASE??????????
And speaking of danger, BLOWING YOUR NOSE ON 5TH AND MAIN may spread germs to the WHOLE COMMUNITY thereby killing off a fair number of residents. OH LORDY, WILL ANOTHER SAFEGUARD LAW BE PUT IN PLACE FOR THOSE GERMS THAT DESTROY OUR PEACE OF MIND, TAKE OUR HEALTH, AND MAKE THE OFFICIALS VERY "SNOTTY"!!!!!!
Look at it this way. Taking an airplane was always tricky. If the plane had engine trouble, DOWN YOU WENT. If the pilot was poorly trained, DOWN YOU WENT. If they forgot to put gas in the tank, DOWN YOU WENT. FLYING IN THE AIR IS A VERY RISKY BUSINESS UNLESS YOU HAVE YOUR OWN WINGS!!!!!!!!!! HOWEVER THE AIRLINES PROTECT YOUR SAFETY AS FAR AS THE AIRPLANE AND CREW CAN DO AND THAT IS REALLY ALL YOU SHOULD EXPECT.
I totally understand the paranoia developing from 9/ll and the reasoning behind all the airport precautions BUT IT HAS GONE OVER THE EDGE OF PARANOIA INTO HYSTERIA. STRIP SEARCHING A SICK 85 YEAR OLD WOMAN IS TOTALLY UNREASONABLE. AND WHAT security officials reluctantly TELL YOU (if you ask) IS THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THEY CAN REALLY STOP AN AIRCRAFT FROM BEING SABOTAGED OR A PASSENGER FROM DESTROYING OTHER PASSENGERS IF THEY ARE DETERMINED TO SO DO!!!!!! The only advantage is to make it difficult so that only the most committed (ie: the terrorists=the ones who caused all the extra security) will attempt it.
These OVERKILL methods simply work aS PUBLIC RELATIONS attempts at making YOU FEEL PROTECTED AND CARED ABOUT WHILE STRIP SEARCHES ABUSE YOUR SENSITIVITIES. It's the feeling that "MOMMY AND DADDY" ARE LOOKING AFTER YOU WHILE YOU PROJECT YOURSELF INTO SPACE WITH ONLY A METAL SKIN BETWEEN YOU AND EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!
I find the dichotomies in our cultures amusing as well as confusing. A person will swing off the end of a BUNGEE CORD, but whimper at the thought of being destroyed on an airplane. A person will ski down a 4000 foot slope (LOOK OUT FOR THAT OPEN CREVICE) but pales at the thought that there might be a bomb on a plane. Someone, who drives 90 MPH on open highway, cringes at the idea that a terrorist might be aboard an aircraft.
IS IT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CAUSING ONE'S OWN DEATH OR HAVING A STRANGER DO IT??????? ISN'T THE OUTCOME THE SAME EITHER WAY???????
LIFE does not come with a guarantee or even a warranty. We could wish for one but living is very dangerous. However as the old saying goes the opposite choice has no benefits! TELL YOUR KIDS, YOUR GRAND KIDS, YOUR GREAT-GRAND KIDS ETC. that life is as dangerous as driving 90MPH. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN AND DOES!!!!!!!!!
YOUNG SCHOOL TEACHERS--PLEASE NOTE--Crushes by the tiny-tiny boppers in grade school are not an unusual event. It's been going on since schools started (and before) so if one your students says "you're cute" , "you're sweet", "you're wonderful" OR even GOD FORBID, 'You're sexy". Do THE intelligent thing--CONSIDER THE SOURCE and take it as a compliment NOT ABUSE.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP BEING SCARED SHITLESS BY THE GHOSTS OF PAST TRAGEDIES OR OF EVENTS THAT MAY NEVER HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!BUCK UP. When you divide the number of bad events into the total world population even with ongoing wars in various regions, it comes out GOOD NOT BAD!!!!!!!!! WE'D ALL LIKE IT TO BE BETTER BUT THEN PERFECTION IS ALWAYS ILLUSIVE AND ALLUSIVE.
This is not a denial of the existence of predators but TELEVISION and the COMPUTER makes them grow exponentially OUT OF PROPORTION to the REAL WORLD. Those mediums affect us negatively in many areas in a disproportionate amount to actual events. Yes, THEY SHOW US TRAGEDIES but to project these into a gigantic epidemic that needs arrests for all kinds of minor sins is eroding the sense of the law.
Speaking of the law, there is a project that this blogger would like to see taken on by the Congress and THE INDIVIDUAL STATES. It is called SUNSET PROVISIONS FOR ALL LAWS. So that when we go through A MINDLESS PERIOD SUCH AS WE ARE CURRENTLY ENJOYING the laws (SILLY AND OTHERWISE)that are passed have an expiration date.
IN OTHER WORDS, when a law is passed, it is provided with a date by which it must either be renewed or fade away. There are a ridiculous number of laws and Government bills that could have benefitted from this clause. It would mean that A SILLY PROVISION THAT PUTS YOU IN JAIL FOR BLOWING YOUR NOSE AT 5th and MAIN would only last for a few years. Enough time for the population of that area to realize how SILLY THE LAW REALLY IS while retaining laws that truly benefit the citizenry.
REMEMBER, PLEASE, ONE OF THE REASONS the PILGRIMS CAME TO AMERICA in the first place was that they found the laws of England to be overwhelming, overburdening, and overzealous. They had lost their freedom to act in their own behalf because of the burden of laws supposedly designed to PROTECT THEM!!!!!!!!!! Instead of protection, they caused good citizens to be labeled CRIMINALS FOR "BLOWING THEIR NOSE AT 5Th and MAIN". If it continues to HAPPEN IN AMERICA, those pioneers might as well have stayed in England. LET'S BACK OFF BEFORE WE HAVE TO COLONIZE SPACE!!!!!!!!!!!!
